4 out of 5 stars Now a camping necessity!   September 6, 2010
Anna (WA)
I ordered this on Wednesday, received on Thursday (chose overnight shipping) even though it said it might need an extra day or two until it was ready to ship. Friday I used it for a camping trip. The bag seems to be made with very heavy material so it seems like it will last quite a while and not be easily punctured. It was very easy to attach to the Highland 2005200 48" Black Universal Car Top Bar Carrier that I also ordered. I tightened the straps snug, but didn't over-tighten since I didn't want to stress the attachment point on the bag. There wasn't any rain while we were driving...but I'm sure at some point that will be tested since I live in the Seattle area. I have a 1998 Saturn SL2, and both items fit well: this carrier covered almost all of my roof. I fit a ton of gear inside: 2 rubbermaid containers, 3 camp chairs (2 adult, 1 child), 2 regular sized pillows, a camp stove, a small folding table, a 6-person tent, a small sleeping bag, and 1 or 2 medium bags of clothes. Like others said, it only unzips on two sides, so it is kind of a pain to load stuff into the far corner. I used a step stool and put my two storage tubs in the front, first sliding one into the far corner. The zippers worked well and seemed sturdy, but it was a little difficult to zip it around the corner...maybe because the bag was stiff around the corner...it wasn't from a faulty zipper. Overall, this was a great buy and I'm sure I will use it many more times.

5 out of 5 stars Lived up to its reviews   September 3, 2010

We were looking for a cartop carrier for our trip to South Carlonia to leave us more room inside our Pilot. I looked for a hardtop carrier but was a bit shocked at the prices for something that I would only use once a year. The soft top carriers were more economical for us and the Highland Kar Pak was rated high. It definately lived up to its reviews. Its made up of thick material and is definately waterproof. We found out after driving through a couple of thunderstorms and all our contents stayed dry.
I was a bit concerned about needing to purchase crossbars to hold it on the roof. My Pilot only has the side roof rails. I decided to just use those and it was no problem; once tied on, that carrier wasn't going anywhere. Don't spend moeny on the crossbars if you car doesnt already have them. I had no problem securing the carrier to the car using only rhe 4 straps provided. No need to use bungee cords or anything else. I did tape down the excess straps with duct tape to keep from flapping during our drive.
Great product and worked great on our drive. Best of all, its now all folded up in its box on my garage shelf, conviently out of the way.

5 out of 5 stars Great!   August 27, 2010

I was able to fit all my luggage in it for college. I would recommend buying additional straps just for extra security atop your car.

5 out of 5 stars Great, Great Soft Rooftop Carrier   August 26, 2010
Vera (NJ, USA)
We have had this rooftop car carrier for over a year. Used it 8 times ourselves on our Buick Rendevous and lent it to family members. Most trips ranged from 4 to 10 hours driving time. Easy to intstall on the roof and holds more than I would have imagined which helps on easing up alot of interior car space(held full size suitcase, smaller suitcase & 2 duffle bags packed full.) We have been in torrential downpours of rain and not one bit of water or moisture has made its way into the bag (directions state to zip & make sure flap is over zipper once closed, if not done I could see how rain might penetrate the zipper area.) A must are roof rack cross bars to use this carrier, after loading & zipped shut the cross bars must be adusted to snuggle next to the carrier. The LAST step is to anchor the 4 straps around the cross bars (directions state it is to be done after loading & zipping it up; if it was anchored before loading it could cause too much tension when zipping which might cause a problem.) The extra unused strap flapping in the wind can be annoying to listen to during a car ride, try to remember to loosely tie them up so they won't flap. The carrier has never scratched or dented the car roof but you do feel the extra weight of it as you drive along. It is light and easy to fold away for storage, durable at a decent price making it a worthwhile investment.

2 out of 5 stars Straps tore on first use.   August 17, 2010
Darin Terry (Fountain Valley, CA)
I used this carrier on a roundtrip drive from so. cal. to Grand Canyon. After 2 days, two of the straps began to tear at the stitching on the carrier. I believe it is still water proof because the inside layer is still in tack. But I was hoping for something more durable. Maybe I cinched it up too tight, but I will probably return it and try again.
